I served four years active duty in the United States Navy, during that time, I was one of the first of twelve women placed on an ammunition ship with 300 men at the time. My ship was stationed in Guam, that being my first duty station, I spent two years living on board that ship and traveling the world. During that two year duty, I was offered the opportunity to temporarily be sent to another ship for six months and be involved in Desert Storm for six months.
After my two year duty on ship was fulfilled I was transferred to a Squadron in the States to finish out my other two years of active duty. I joined the Navy Reserves after my four year active duty enlistment, however, I transferred from the Navy Reserves to the Army Reserves in hopes of securing a better type of job and reenlisting to active duty.
I was able to reenlist active duty into the United States Army as a Parachute Rigger and also became a U.S. Airborne Paratrooper, which, is not an easy thing to do as a female. In the Army I was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and trained in ground combat, weapons training, packed parachutes and jumped from airplanes and helicopters. After my two year enlistment was up, I decided to get out of the military for good.
A few years ago, I started searching for clothing, hats, mugs, water bottles, stickers, gadgets, etc that reflected my time in service and, more importantly, says woman or female on it with my branch of service or my job, and something related to what I had done for my country during my time in the military. I wanted to purchase items in order to portray the pride and time that I had served for my country.
However, after lengthy research, I found that there is not much of a market out there for WOMEN who have SERVED their country!
It’s ALL focused toward men!
So, here I am WOMEN of uniform, I am trying to make a difference, by giving us some apparel and manufactured items of our own to wear proudly, for SHE has SERVED her country TOO!
